We are a small company, makers of homemade marmalade and chutney, spearheaded by Chief Cook and Bottle Washer, Victoria. Complying with Slow Food principles, we source fruit and vegetables in season and as locally as possible.
We believe in TASTE.
All our marmalades are handmade from fresh fruit, simmered until the peel is soft before boiling to a set with sugar. In our opinion, this is the only way to make a good marmalade. The sharpness and clarity of the fruit shines through.
Many commercial marmalades are made from pre-shredded tinned fruit, the processing of the fruit effectively means the fruit is cooked twice, intensity is lost, so brandy, brown sugar or other flavourings are added to compensate. This goes against everything The Proper Marmalade Company believes in so if you don't have the time to hand make your own, let us make it for you!
Multi Award Winning
Our hand cut Marmalades have gone from strength to strength with numerous Awards including Paddington Bears 'paw' of approval with World Champion, Gold and Silver Awards at the Original Marmalade Festival in Cumbria and several Great Taste Golds, including the Top 50 Products Awards, whittled down from 9,700 entries.
Made in batches of 22 jars, our marmalades have the kick to wake you up in the morning. Why make it yourself?
Our brand new Tawny Seville Marmalade won the coveted Double Gold Award at the 2015 World Marmalade Festival Dalemain - joining our Pink Grapefruit Marmalade in reaching the pinnacle of award status!
